Meet the founder - Ella Peters

Hello – I’m Ella! I founded Skylos Collective as I’m a huge lover of sustainability, especially in terms of textiles and development, and am also, as to be expected, a massive fan of dogs!

My background is in sustainable development, through the lens of ethical fashion. I studied International Development Management, with a major in Sustainable Value Chains in the Netherlands, which gave me a solid grounding on how trade can catalyse development. It also introduced me to issues including circular economy, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and life cycle assessments. And this in-depth understanding of what sustainability is really all about is key to our work and visions here at Skylos Collective.

Additionally, my involvement was pivotal in achieving Fair Trade International certification for an SME knit manufacturer in Bolivia. Whilst enabling me to experience first-hand the environmental tragedies the textile industry cause, this project furthered my commitment to be a part of transforming the sector into a force for good. I’ve also worked at an NGO consultancy for the United Nations on sustainable fashion production.
Growing up, pets were always part of the family, whether pygmy goats, guinea pigs or our beloved Australian Cattle Dog. My partner and I now have a wonderful Golden Retriever (Alli) who is our world. As a teenager I also volunteered with the Suffolk Punch Trust, working with the critically endangered heavy horses, so I think it’s safe to say animals – and in particular dogs - have always been close to my heart.
